Cast stainless steel ASTM A531 CF8M is the cast equivalent of type 316 stainless steel, mainly be casted by silica sol lost-wax investment casting process.
CF8 and CF8M chemical composition in ASTM A351, ASTM A743 or ASTM A744 standards are same.

ASTM A 531 CF8 and CF8M stainless steel alloy is the most common austenitic stainless steel, which are with a mixture primarily composed of Cr, Ni and Mo, offering good corrosion resistance and excellent formability, making them widely used in various applications, such as pump and valve, marine, chemical processing, food, aircraft and automotive.
Especially, CF8M, which equal to 316, is with 2~3% Mo, which improves the alloy’s resistance to acids, alkalis, and chloride pitting. The more corrosion resistance of 316 (CF8) allows it to be used in highly acidic environments that other steels can’t tolerate without incurring damage. And ASTM 316 can be used in sea and marine applications because 316 can withstand exposure to salt and chlorides without breaking down.
