Metal Casting
What’s metal casting process?
Metal casting is a process that involves pouring hot liquid metal into a mold with assistance a crucible, allowing it to solidify, and then removing it from the mold to create a desired shape. Metal casting process is most often used for producing complex shapes that would be difficult or uneconomical to produce by other methods. Traditional metal casting techniques include lost-wax casting or investment casting, lost-foam casting, die casting, sand casting and centrifugal casting process.
Investment casting or lost-wax casting is a low-volume casting process of making a metal object from a wax model.
Sand casting is a low-cost casting method that uses sand molds to shape and produce metal objects and components.
Die casting is a high-volume metal casting process in which molten metal is poured or forced into steel molds under high pressure.
Centrifugal casting is a manufacturing process to produce pipes by pouring molten metal into a rapidly spinning cylindrical mold.
What’s steps of metal casting process?
- Pattern making: Create a replica of the desired shape using a material like wood, metal or plastic.
- Molding: Create a mold cavity using the pattern.
- Melting and pouring: Melt the required metal and pour it into the mold.
- Removing the casting: Remove the casting from the mold after the metal to cool and solidify in the mold.
- Finishing: Remove the excess metal by using shot blasting, grinding or other methods, heat treated if need, and inspect the castings.
Actually you only need mail the 2D drawing, 3D drawing in .step, .stp, .X_T files to Baoding Guokun. We will produce the metal casting parts accordingly and quickly.
What’s material suitable for metal casting?
Steel is a popular metal for casting process because its properties can be easily varied by changing its carbon content, chemical composition, or heat treatment.
Cast iron is a class of iron-carbon alloys with a carbon content of more than 2% and silicon content around 1-3%, and it used in many applications, including construction, outdoor ornament, agriculture, pump, truck and cooking.
Cast aluminum is a metal made by pouring molten aluminum into a mold and letting it cool and solidify, mainly often used to produce light weight and strong objects, such as automotive parts, aircraft parts, lawn, furniture and others. The normal casting process suitable for aluminum is gravity casting, sand casting and die casting.
